Analysis of Preliminary Task

For my preliminary task we had to film a short sequence which had to inculde: a character opening a door, crossing a room and sitting down in a chair opposite another character, with whom he/she then exchanges two lines of dialogue. The preliminary task had to involve key techniques of filming and editing these were: match on action, shot/reverse shot and the 180-degree rule.

In my opnion the camera angles in my preliminary task were not that great, the reason for this is because we had very little time to film and we were in a rush. My preliminary task did show a wide range of camera shots and a variety of camera angles such as low angle shot on Frankie to make him seem more powerful. There was also a couple of movement shots inculded such as the zoom on the 'highway code book'. we could have improved the framing a lot as we only filmed each scene once. If i were to do the task agaim i would make sure i have more spare time and film more shots rather than just having one.

Editing in my Preliminary task was very useful as most of my shots needed to be cut as there were parts after the shot were a noise would come in or someone would start laughing. We did not need to dim any sound in my shots. we used many different effects such as having text in the intro and outro, we also used fade in and fade out to make it seem a little bit of time has passed. Editing was very important to use in my film and i feel we did the best we could editing the task.

The biggest downfall of my Preliminary Task was mise-en-scene, the reason for this was because of mainly location, we choose to do out task in a large hall where it ecoed a lot and was also very dark so the actors faces were very dark and little could be seen. If i were to do the preliminary task i would plan more efficiently and choose a much better location.
